The Literacy Rope / Reading
The Reading Rope
The Reading Rope is a metaphorical representation of the complex process of reading and the various interconnected skills and abilities involved in proficient reading. It was developed by Hollis Scarborough, an expert in reading research and instruction. The Reading Rope model emphasizes that both strands, word recognition and language comprehension, are essential for proficient reading. The strands intertwine and support each other, leading to effective reading comprehension. As readers develop proficiency in each subcomponent of the Reading Rope, their reading skills become stronger and more interconnected. Â
